Remembering GG: Ron's Mother

Esther Ann Hover
GG was a strong and sometimes (okay, more than sometimes) feisty woman who started living on her own in high school. She never lost an appreciation for family and her life experiences. Having been a child during the Great Depression, she was frugal: I can remember seeing her put a small amount of spilled salt back in the salt shaker. As Andrew recently said, she made a real impression on everyone. (Abby frequently asks about her and remembers her in her prayers.) I think she made an impression on Abby and others because she was so real.

You can read her obituary on the above link.

  1. I remember when Jen and I went to visit her in Florida over Spring Break. We got up the very next morning and she and Grandpa were both gone. So we noticed some cereal on the table and we ate. When they got home we asked where they had gone and she told us that she left us a note. We did not remember seeing a note and it was then that she told us that she had put it on the floor so that we would be sure to get it! We being 6th and 8th graders of course just stepped over the "trash" on the floor! :) We also were very excited to soak up the sun and go home with a tan--however Grandma was all about sun protection and we spent our days on the beach under an umbrella, with a hat, and 90 SPF! I didn't even know they made it that high; we went home just as white as we arrived! She didn't burn her food and she wasn't going to burn her grandkids! ~Jill
